The Cornwall Standard Freeholder
The Cornwall Standard Freeholder
The Standard-Freeholder has a rich and proud history and has been the newspaper of record for Cornwall and the counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry for the past 156 years. It began as two newspapers, the Freeholder, which was founded by the first premier of Ontario, John Sandfield Macdonald, and the Standard. The two newspapers were amalgamated in 1932 and the first issue was published on April 30 of that year. It began as a daily newspaper in the late 1940s and now has a circulation of nearly 15,000 people. It remains the only daily newspaper in the triangle between Brockville, Ottawa and Montreal to this day. The Standard-Freeholder remains committed to the people it serves.
